Organic farm ”La Vega”

The organic farm “La Vega” is located around 10km from Independencia, in the Ayopaya province in the department of Cochabamba, Bolivia. This project is in the early phase of implementation. Currently, the infrastructure for the breeding of fish and guinea pigs, as well as the arrangement of plants is being organised. Visiting the organic farm will give the city dweller a better understanding of the rural environment by offering a series of activities that emphasize the social, environmental and material advantages of an organic farm.

The project aims to raise the awareness and respect for the environment in both producers and consumers, so that they protect the natural resources and at the same time can lead a healthy and active life. This objective is based on the principle of sustainable development: the current generation should satisfy their needs in a way that does not compromise the ability of future generations to satisfy their needs.


The project aims to replace traditional with organic farming, in order to give added value to the agricultural products through the use of environmentally friendly farming practices. The breeding of fish and guinea pigs fits perfectly in this type of agriculture, as a cyclical system is created in which elements and products of one activity can be used for the other. The incorporation of animal protein from fish and guinea pig meat into the diet of the local population improves its nutrition base. Furthermore, the organic farm project aims to grow and protect native plant species that are endangered to become extinct, which will in the long-term support the protection of the biodiversity of our landscapes.

abejas1If the project rolls out successfully, it is planned to educate people interested in the use of organic farming practices, especially young people from the area. The farm would provide the space where they can apply what they have learned and expand their knowledge.

All these efforts in the project will provide useful tools for the sensibilization of consumers of all ages about the importance of healthy eating habits, as well as for the delivery of knowledge on the quality of food, the environmental impact and social context of food production.
